The concept for The Ogham Grove takes inspiration from the ancient Celtic Ogham Tree Alphabet. Trees were of great importance to the Celts of ancient Ireland, and not only provided shelter and sustenance but were sources of magic and power. The word 'Druid' itself comes from the Celtic name for the oak - 'duir', and these Druids understood the patterns of the world around us and above us, and also the importance of living in harmony with it so that it would look after us.
There are 4 cycles across the year: INCREASE, DECAY, REBIRTH and RENEWAL.
There are important solstices and equinoxes with these cycles and at the boundary of each phase, tied to the solar cycle.
And within each lunar cycle we experience the waning and waxing of the moon, from the light half to the dark half and back again, as we move from full moon to new moon and back.
As part of the 2021 festival 'Culture Night Belfast' we were commissioned to create a monumental installation, to celebrate the world around us & the link with the sun & the moon. It comprised of a vast structural, lighting and sound show that filled the Cathedral Quarter’s Writer’s Square in the heart of Belfast, along with a treasure hunt to find wooden plaques around the Cathedral Quarter.
It was conceived by Gawain Morrison, Neil Beattie, and Dylan McCaughtry, with creative partnerships with Tomas FitzGerald who brought the Ogham Grove lighting to life, and Damian Mills and the drumming troop who entranced the crowds with their live performances.
It was hosted for 3 days across the September Autumn Equinox & here are links to meet the artist videos:

This album ebbs and flows, builds and drops, and has lighter and darker elements as it goes through the 4 cycles, and was produced by 'Eric Needs To Know' specifically for that installation.
